MSKSSA (Europe)

The Knanaya Church lays great emphasis and importance on educating children with the values of Christian life, the contents of the Bible, and Church history.

The “Koonenkurish Sathyam” in 1653 was a turning point, emphasizing the need for Catechism and Scriptural studies. During the period 1765–1808, the study of sacraments and prayers was also included in the lessons. This marked the beginning of Sunday School in the Church.

The Sunday School Samajam began functioning in 1931 with the appointment of Puthencavu Geevarghese Mar Philoxenos as its President and Fr. K. David as the General Secretary. On 15 October 1964, it was rejuvenated and later evolved into what is now known in Europe as the Malankara Syrian Knanaya Sunday School Association Europe (MSKSSA). This spiritual organization functions in Knanaya parishes across the world, nurturing children spiritually by bringing them up in the knowledge and fellowship of Jesus Christ and His Church.

Classes are conducted in Malayalam for children in Kerala and in English for those outside Kerala. The outer Kerala region has its own wing.

The classes range from Pre-primary to the 12th class. As in secular schools, class ten concludes the secondary level, and successful candidates are awarded the Sunday School Final Certificate (SSFC). The Higher Secondary course continues for another two years.
